I really enjoyed this piece. Great writing. I had to grab a couple of my paperback anthologies because it reminded me (in a good way) of someone writing from another era? Bram Stoker? Frances Garfield? Anyway, loved it and look forward to more!
This hits hard. The first time I went hiking I got caught in the mountains in the dark. This piece brought me back there in the best way. Loved it! Especially the line: "So long it had been forced to feed on the sleepers. It had nearly forgotten the pleasures of the waking mind."
I love the references to Honeyglooms ravens and now Sean's Icky things nature walk, guess he won't be getting that magnificent feather soon.
Anyway, I would like to also know what damn lens this guy uses in low light! Jokes aside, really an excellent and riveting one Ken. Never heard of Martrö∂vindur before.
I meant to read this earlier and accidently pressed like because my daughter swooped in like a jaguar and nearly knocked my phone off. Not that it mattered, I knew I would like your tales anyway 😊
Thanks Liz! Sean beat you to it this time-- almost as if he knew! Every time I put one up, I think: yup, this is burned. And this one felt really, really burned.
Is this where my fascination with birds and nature is leading me to? haha
I can't believe you did this in an afternoon. This is perfection.
Had to, Sean. Simply had to.
Love it.
But of course you know, you're on my radar now, and what's good for the Martrö∂vindur is good for the Martrö∂vindar.
Ooh, I feel a good one coming. Of course, you need to get EJ first!
Sean does love his creepy birds...
I loved your descriptions of the setting. So gothic and beautiful.
Thanks EJ. Sorry for the output this week-- not my usual tempo, honest. It even made me lose a sub!
you truly have nothing to apologize for— you’re a fantastic writer giving us unbelievably good shit for free. do it whenever you want!

I’d take Bram Stoker. Hmm. The dreamy narrative quality, right? I’ve noticed that about myself.
Yes. It just felt like I don’t know, the cadence of the words draw you in and you keep going on and on even if it is possibly into a nightmare? 😂
Oh, that’s quite a compliment. Thank you. I’m a little shaky about my writing in general so this is lovely to hear!

A pale candle compared to the blaze you unleashed this week. Thanks for having a gander, Will! Appreciate it, always.
Thank you for my new fear of birds
These descriptions are quite creepy, lending themselves well to build atmosphere and tone... really well done, I think~ A fine work!
Thank you! Really blew through it so I'm honestly glad it has some quality at all.

Ok. I’m an amateur birder. I am now frozen with terror. This was exceptional!

That Sean…so quick on the trigger, lol. Never doubt your power as a storyteller.
Thanks Liz! Let’s hope it holds out. I’ve got a few toughies coming up.
